Viggo Nielsen, the famous father of pipe makers Kai and Jorgen Nielsen, made pipes throughout the Danish Fancy Freehand phase of pipe making that swept the world in the 1970s and '80s, and we can easily see that influence here. Viggo did some remarkably creative work with the shaping of this Freehand, maximizing the briar's grain orientation while still crafting a creative, stylized piece, placing a multifaceted, plateau-crowned bowl at the fore of a flared round shank and bent vulcanite stem. Dressed in a warm, medium contrast stain, it also happens to sport a great wealth of flame grain.
Viggo is surely one of the seminal figures in the evolution of the Danish pipe. The finish is just perfect and when holding one of Viggo's pipes, you can tell, he's a pro.
