Holtorp Fan
Per Holtorpwas one of the many artisanal carvers who worked in the periphery of Pipe-Dan. In the 1960's - maybe up to the early 1970's - he was one of the in-house pipemakers working together with Sven Knudsen, Gert Holbek, Axel Svend Celius, Tom Eltang - just to name a few. Later he worked from his own shop but still sold most of his pipes via Pipe-Dan.
A more sculptural piece from P. Holtorp, this Freehand is essentially a more complex take on the old Fan, featuring a lot of depth to the transition for a more continuous display of grain along the flanks,which offers a broader canvas on which to showcase some nice flame grain. On that note, this pipe certainly delivers, along with a craggy crown of plateau and a comfortable feel in hand.
One of my favorite pipes from holtorp. The flame is fantastic and the piece just feels so solid in the hand. Truly a masterpiece of '60s-'70s Danish artisanship.The pipe has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized, and it's ready to be enjoyed with your favorite tobacco.
