1884 ALS - William Dean Howells (1837-1920) - Noted Author, Editor and Critic:

Born in Martinville, now Martins Ferry, Ohio in 1837. He was Editor of the Atlantic Monthly (1871-1881) and wrote over a hundred books in his lifetime. In the late 1800's and early 1900's he was recognized as the "Dean of American Letters" and he became the first president of the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1908. The letter offered was written on the 8th of Feb., 1884. It is an authentic autographed handwritten letter and is in very good condition. The note is written in black ink on 4 1/2" x 7" paper.
