Attention all Marines and Marine Corps patch enthusiasts! Here's a FINE example of a subdued OD unit logo patch for Third Marine Aircraft Wing. During WWII, Marines actually wore air wing patches as a shoulder sleeve insignia. The practice was discontinued in 1947, but the aviation patches still find their way onto flight jackets and flight suits, as well as off-duty civilian clothing. (This, of course, is not a WWII patch, but a modern subdued variant.)

These famous kite-shaped patches are a familiar sight on anything associated with Marine Corps aviation. As early as 1946, John Wayne’s character wears one in the movie Without Reservations. And of course Top Gun’s “Maverick” sports one on his vintage leather flight jacket! These patches are essential must-have items for all types of "Airdales" ..... "Zoomies" ..... "Rotorheads" ..... or anyone else with ties to “the Wing.”

3rd Marine Aircraft Wing has an impressive combat history, beginning with bomber and night-fighter squadron deployments in WWII ! 3rd MAW continued its storied history with personnel and squadron deployments to Vietnam, and in later years to Operations Desert Storm and Restore Hope! And of course, they made history once again in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom! Third Air Wing’s role is, of course, to provide the aviation component to the famed Marine Air/Ground team (in this case, I MEF.) Their headquarters is based at Miramar, California.

This is a NEW and UNUSED patch. It is NOT a war relic but a recent manufacture item! Note that this is a smaller sized patch, ideal for a ball cap. Thick textured, full-embroidered with merrowed edge. Please note: There is NO plastic heat-sealed backing for this one. Back of patch is cloth (as shown in 2nd photo.) Colors are clean and bright. Packaging & Reliability:

My flat-fee shipping structure covers cost of packaging and postage, and is a best-guess estimate for size and weight of items. It's not an exact science. (The flat fee is still significantly less than my actual cost for postage.) Items ship in zip-closure poly bags to protect from moisture. Items ship as trackable USPS Ground Advantage parcels within the US.

In my experience, the track record of US Postal Service delivery within the US is practically 100% reliable. I may at my discretion choose insurance for shipments of a certain value. But the best insurance you can have is to make sure you provide a current and correct postal delivery address, and to check your mailbox regularly.

Return Policy:

"No Returns Accepted" is my designated policy, unless an item has a defect or was misrepresented.
