This is a tea bowl by Mino area artist Takumi Kuroiwa. Excellent Condition - no chips cracks or repairs - piece was hand built - photos show rough carved bottom- Purchased in 2006 in NYC at Gallery Gen
Kuroiwa is trained in the Oribe tradition of Mino ceramics but is strongly influenced by Chinese multi-colored over glaze enamel decoration. His pieces are often covered in white slip under the glaze & then decorated with red, green & blue enamel over the glaze. The design inside the bowl features a bird and flower designs. The bowl is signed inside the foot with the Japanese hiragana characters “Taku”.The piece measures 6 1/4” in diameter & 2 3/4” in height.
