TLS, 1p, 8\" X 10½\", Washington, DC, 12 January 1950. Addressed to Dr. Karl A. Meyer. Very good. Mild age toning and original folds. On \"United States Senate / Office of the Majority Leader\" letterhead, Lucas thanks this noted Chicago physician \"for your warm and cordial letter\" and discusses the upcoming campaign (which he will lose to Everett Dirksen) -- \"The coming campaign will not be easy. It will take the best kind of an organization. We should see that our relatives and friends are organized, and, by all means, that they vote on election day. If wo do this, we can win....\" Signed large and bold in blue ink - Comes with an original glossy 8½\" X 7\" news agency photograph taken about one week after this letter. Fine. Mimeographed text tipped to verso, dated 3 January 1950, captions the image \"Democratic Leaders Confer with Truman\" and describe the image: Democratic chiefs of the House and Senate call on President Truman and go over the State of the Union message which he will deliver to a Joint Session of Congress tomorrow...\" A seated Truman at left and Barkley at right chat with three legislators standing above them -- Lucas, Sam Rayburn and John W. McCormack. The more things change, the more they state the same indeed!

Books ship via USPS Media Mail with tracking. Expedited shipping via USPS Priority Mail can be requested. Please contact us for a quote before making your payment.
