On offer is the second-largest of the shallow plates (mattallrikar) produced for the Koka Blue line: the 24 cm luncheon plate (KA 24).The listed price is for one plate, with up to five being available. Each plate is approximately 9 ½ inches in diameter (24 cm).

Debuting in 1956, the Koka Blue service was designed by Rörstrand’s Hertha Bengtson to be functional and beautiful – a heat-resistant, flameproof collection of pieces that could easily go from “stovetop to tabletop” without the need for additional serving dishes. Koka Blue was so popular that later in the 1960s, the line was expanded to include variations in brown(Koka Brun)and green(Koka Grön),the latter with much more limited distribution.

The per-plate price ($45) is firm. However, if you are interested in purchasing this entire lot, I am happy to offer it at $180—a 20% savings. If you do opt to purchase all five plates in this listing, please contact me prior to purchase so that I can make the necessary adjustments.

Condition Report:

Each offered plate is good,used condition. There is noevidence of damage or repair to any item in this lot.

The plates chosen for this lot have all been used, and one does not need oblique lighting to see the utensil marks and — in some cases — dishwasher water marks on some pieces. With that said, there are no chips, cracking, or crazing (craquelure) noted on any of the plates in this lot. This collection would be perfect as backup plates to a Koka Blå collection already in service; or as replacements plates if additional ones are needed to fill in a place setting. While these are not plates that I would use to lay the table for a formal dinner, they are ones that I would recommend for everyday use. Each plate has very good heft, and the blue glazing on each is still vibrant, allowing the abstract bamboo pattern to shine through. I would normally price an “excellent” or “near-mint” version of this plate at almost twice the amount asked for in this listing — so this is a very good opportunity for anyone looking to expand their current Koka Blå collection to include this very important — and very popular — item from the service line. Each item is unnumbered but marked “Rörstrand Sweden” and “VDN P555 KOKA,” which is a designation given to items later in the Koka Blue production run that indicates that these pieces have been tested and proven to be dishwasher-safe to 75 degrees Celsius.
