In November 1871, journalist Henry Morton Stanley located the missing missionary David Livingstone in the wilds of Africa.

It is the full-page engraving from the French weekly \"L\'ILLUSTRATION\", published in 1873.

L\'Illustration was a weekly French newspaper published inParis from 1843 to 1944. It was founded by Edouard Charton and the first issuewas published on March 4, 1843. In 1891,L\'Illustration became the first French newspaper to publish a photograph. Manyof these photographs came from syndicated photo-press agencies likeChusseau-Flaviens, but the publication also employed its own photographers suchas Léon Gimpel and others. In 1907, L\'Illustration was the first to publish acolor photograph. It also published Gaston Leroux\' novel Le mystère de lachambre jaune as a serial a year before its 1908 release. During the Second World War, L\'Illustrationwas directed by Jacques de Lesdain, a German collaborator, and it became a voicefor propaganda. As a result, it was shut down in 1944 following theLiberation of Paris. Another versionre-opened in 1945 under the name France-Illustration, but went bankrupt in1957. Weekly issues were mailed to subscribers who would have them bound into semi-yearly volumes.
