JAMES WHITCOMB RILEY (1849-1916).Riley was an American writer and poet sometimes known as “The Hoosier Poet”.Riley wrote the 1885 poem “Little Orphant Annie”, which inspired the belovedcharacter Little Orphan Annie.

PS. 1pg. June 16, 1896. Indianapolis. Animage with an autograph quote signed “James Whitcomb Riley”. Riley wroteout a few lines from his poem “The Old Swimming Hole”; they appear below ablack-and-white half-tone image of a swimming hole with Riley’s portrait aboveit. “But the lost joys is past! Let your tears in sorrow roll Like the rainthat ust to dapple up the old swimming’ hole. Very truly yours JamesWhitcomb Riley For DeWill Miller, Est. Indianapolis, June 16, 1896”. Itis in fine condition.
