Algeria

Find: 2022 Feb 4

Classification: HED achondrite (Eucrite, unbrecciated)

History: Found near Rabouni, Algeria on February 4, 2022, by a Sahrawi team represented by David Lehman.

Petrography: (A. Irving,UWS, and P. Carpenter,WUSL) Diabasic specimen with ophitic texture (mean grainsize ~0.8 mm). Composed of exsolved pigeonite and calcic plagioclase with accessory silica polymorph, ilmenite, low-Ti chromite, troilite and rare zircon. Minor secondary calcite veining is present.

Geochemistry: Low-Ca pyroxene hosts (Fs61.9-63.5Wo1.6-2.2, FeO/MnO = 30-33, N = 4), augite exsolution lamellae (Fs26.4-30.2Wo44.0-38.2, FeO/MnO = 30-32, N = 4), plagioclase (An82.1-90.4Or0.7-0.2, N = 4).

Classification: Eucrite (unbrecciated, diabasic).

Specimens: 25.3 g including one polished thin section atUWB; remainder with Mr. D. Lehman.
