A superb and rare photo of themighty Gilera 500cc four. Standing behind the machine are (left) 1957 Gilera 500cc World Champion LiberoLiberati and (right) famous Scotsman Bob McIntyre. This magnificent photo wasmade in the pit of the circuit of the famous Monza autodrome circuit in Northern Italy. Both great champions are standingbehind the fabulous Gilera 500cc four cylinder racer. A perfectly engineeredracing machine that knew immense success throughout its model life. Both menbelong amongst the two most famous Gilera riders ever. Libero Liberati becameworld champion in 1957 with the 500cc Gilera in the photo, and finshed 2ndin the 350cc world championship on the smaller version of the Gilera four. Bob McIntyre wrote in amost impressive way history by winning both the 350cc Junior as the 500ccSenior T.T. on the Isle of Man with the 350cc and 500cc Gilera four. He becamethe first man to lap the Isle of Man T.T. Mountain circuit with an average speed ofover 100 mph! Impressively, the Senior T.T. wasan 8 lap race! Bob finished 2nd in the 500cc world championship and3rd in the 350cc world championship. He also established a greatseries of world records on the Monza autodrome circuit late 1957. On a350cc four he broke the hour record with an average speed of 141 mph! This is your rare chance toownthis non period photo that reflects a very interesting and highlyhistoric piece of Gilera’s glorious history.
