A U.S. dime (10 cent piece) measures 17.5 mm in diameter.Featured rock, fromthe western U.S. goldfields, shows a green Mariposite cap encasing one facet of the white quartz. More Mariposite can be seen elsewhere. Small zones of crystalline gold are visible in the rock. You won\'t get your money\'s worth in gold bullion. My price is based on rarity, collectibility, and intrinsic value. As native U.S. auriferous (gold-bearing) minerals go, this rock is very cool.

As founder of this store, I actively mined gold for 19+ years. For thirteen summers, you might find me somewhere in one of the western mining states sucking up gravel beneath my gold dredge. As an itinerant miner, once winter closed her icy grip on the mountains of the north, I flew south. Me and about a million other snowbirds gathered in southern Arizona to ride out the storms. We made quite a congregation of pack-rats. You may ask, how well did I do mining? In all candor, my seasonal gold hauls weren\'t that impressive. In case your perception was that anyone can find oodles of easy ounces, guess again. My best seasons saw around twenty ounces of gold poured into my poke. Believe me, I was proud of those takes. One summer yielded 13 oz of mostly nuggets including my largest slug, a 43 pennyweighter found in Trinity County, California. If gold was worth then what it is today, that wouldn\'t have been a bad haul. Of course, every miner hopes to find more than they usually wind up with. Most gold recovered was \'fugitive gold\', oro the old-timers, for one reason or another, lost or overlooked. Virtually every U.S. property I prospected had been hammered; but if a lead paid a pennyweight a day, I was determined to dig it. Attitude is everything. Despite such seemingly low returns, those were rewarding times. I enjoyed prospecting immensely; Digging where no one else had thought to look and actually finding some beautiful \'shine\'; I mean, what a gas. In hindsight, even the many failures were fun.
Beginning long ago, perhaps in a past life, something about this mystical element called gold drew me to it. From the time I can first remember anything, gold, and the hunt for it invaded my dreams. How in heaven\'s name this came about is beyond me, but hunting for Au, working with it, and marketing became a life-way. I hope the passion shows. If, like myself, you\'re a fan of gold, there\'s a lot to see at Gold of Eldorado.The gold contained in my specimens is not 24K pure i.e. 1000 fine. Absolutely pure gold is never found in nature. The gold contained in my rocks, whether inside or outside, is an alloy of metals created by the mysterious, dynamic forces inside planet earth. It\'s theorized that gold was brought here by impacting asteriods. Considering how planets in our solar system were made (i.e. essentially, by the coalescing of meteorites and stardust), this seems logical. Even though this explanation seems highly-speculative, scientists should be better qualified to make guesses than a rube like yours truly. Obviously, tons of neat geological and astronomical stuff happens in 4.5 billion plus years. The purity of the gold contained in my specimens, in most cases, is quite high, at least 80% gold (800 fine) or higher.
For what it\'s worth, over 12K customers believed in my products enough to become patrons. Not one item was ever returned due to non-authenticity. All that time spent actively mining for gold as a dredger, detectorist, and drywasherman imparted a fair bit of knowledge. Dealing with honorable miners, claim and property owners, all-around nice folks imparted an ethos of honesty, geniality, and doing right by people. GO WHERE THE GOLD ISIn prospecting, it’s always advisable to go where the gold is. After mining for 18 years, however, I concluded that following my own council was easier said than done. The chief culprit responsible for most of my failures was fundamental \'lack of access\'. Looking back, I\'m struck by just how often the best ground was already taken. Claims which remained were open/unfiled on, or available to lease/purchase for a good reason, that being, there wasn\'t much gold left. Reading historical accounts on earlier Gold Rushes, that appears to have been pretty much the same dilemma experienced by the old timers. What\'s accessible to mine depends on current land status, who owns what, how determined a prospector is, and how much gold he\'s content with. Whether unpatented, patented, or private land, aspiring miners must do their homework. Research claim and land ownership records. Once you\'ve found ground that piques an interest, find out who the owners are and contact them. Try, at least, to work out a lease arrangement. Will everyone always choose a legal path allowing them to mine properties? Of course not. Some things, like claim-jumping, never change.
