Mariposite is a mineral which is chromium rich mica, that gives it the unique green color, with dolomitic marble and quartz as the matrix. There are only a handful of places in the world it is found, and is named after Mariposa County, California, where these specimens were mined. The ground around the mine is iron rich therefore some specimens have an iron stain on their skin.

Mohs: Mica 2.5-3; Dolomitic Marble 3.5-4; Quartz 7.0.
