Simon Fielding\'s pottery was founded in the second half of the 19th century. Simon was an authority on pedigree dogs and poultry. Before WWII he added the name Crown Devon to their wares. The wall plaques known as the \"Champion Dog Heads\" were introduced into the range by Neddy Taylor, one of the directors and an avid sportsman. The dogs were all modeled by Kathleen Parsons, who has been described as \"designer and modeler extraordinaire\". The dog heads were modeled on individual dogs and were introduced in 1938. Before going into production the dog heads were examined and approved by a Crufts dog show judge.
The Pekingese, Champion Toydom Man-Zee was born in 1931 and had quite a winning record in the show ring, winning ten Challenge Certificates and being named Best Non-Sporting Dog at the Sheffield Championship Show in 1934. He was bred by Mr. and Mrs. Walker and owned by Mrs. A. Williams of the famous Toydom kennel. The plaque exhibits fine hand painted details, with a deep richly colored coat, and is fully hallmarked.This is model 202 in the series. It measures 4 1/2\" tall by 5 3/4\" wide.
