Turtleback is a rare form of Malachite.

Malachite is a hydrous copper carbonate compound. It is the Copper in it that gives the stone its green color. It is a copper carbonate Hydroxide mineral w/57.48 % copper (in its purest state).

Malachite itself is considered a rare gemstone in that the original deposits for the stones have been depleted leaving behind few sources.

Malachite measures 3.5-4 mohs hardness scale.
