Ancient Peruvian lime coca spoon spatula

From the Moche- Chimu - Chancay cultures, circa 800 AD

115mm. Copper Bronze. Uncleaned natural patina! Complete with what appears to be string (see "fat" part of the stem)

This is the fifth of five being listed. Am selling my collection.

In Christopher Donnan’s Moche Art of Peru, he writes (pg 117):“by chewing a handful of dry coca leave until they form a quid. The quid isthen kept in the cheek, and lime, which serves as a catalyst to free thecocaine from the leaves, is added as the chewing continues. The lime is kept ina small narrow-necked gourd and is transferred to the mouth in small quantitiesby means of a stick.”
