AMERICAN .69 MUSKET BALL, BATTLE OF PALO ALTO,MAY,1846 This unfired American .69 musket ball was found at the sight ofCaptain Samuel Ringgold\'s Batterby Private& (later) Sergeant William Alexander. at the Battle of Palo Alto in May 1846 He served in Captain SamuelRinggold\'s Battery, Company C of the 3rdArtillery atthe Battle of Palo Alto. .. Duringthe battle Captain Ringgold was killed by a cannonball fired fromMexican Captain Ballarta’s Battery. Ringgold’s Battery turned all6 of their cannons on that battery & fired 4 rounds that killedmost of the Mexican cannon crew. Private Alexander with9 other members of the battery charged the Mexicans & captured orkilled the remaining gunners & officers. They captured four4 pounder cannons & an 8 pounder from the battery next toBallarta’s Battery. Forhis bravery William Alexander was promoted to Sergeant. This musket ball was bought direct from the Alexander family in Alexandria,Virginia. Itcomes with a certificate of authenticity.. WilliamAlexander brought homer a large number of Mexican War artifacts tohis home after the war.. He was fromWashington, District of Columbia & lived in Alexandria, Virginiawhen he enlisted in the 3rdArtilleryin Alexandria.
