1957 Medford High School Yearbook, Crater, Medford, Oregon, Year of Expression. Photo # 1 shows the Title Page. Photo # 2 shows the Year of Expression. Photo # 3 shows the Senior Picture of Peggy Joyce Keever, who was the previous owner of this yearbook. Also shown starting at the top, left to right are: Lois Fay Kelley, Peter G. Kershaw, Dennis Cleve King, Earl H. Knight Jr., Leroy A. Knight, Harold Knips, Sandra Ann Kubalek, Kenneth Kenji Kumasawa and Margie June Lafever. Photos 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 show some of the many signatures and well wishes to Peggy Keever. Photo # 9 shows an advertisement for the Big Y Supermarket from 1957. The Big Y Supermarket's four day grand celebration began April 12, 1940. Located at the junction of the old and new Pacific Highways (today's Big X intersection near Rogue Valley Mall, The Big Y Building left no doubt about its name and purpose. A gigantic, vertical neon Big Y sign centered pm the front of the structure was flanked on either side by the words. SUPER and MARKET (The store was located where Natural Grocers on the North Pacific Highway is today) it offered a 12,000 square foot cement floor and over one-half acre of parking space. Windows lined the lower front of the building. Photos 10 and 11 shows that there was even a Big Y Laundromat, located in the building. Which was ran by Ray Nichols. Ray keeps 21, eight pound load machines busy six days a week, from 6 am to 7:30 pm. It would cost you thirty cents per load and Ray Nichols would throw in the soap. The last two pictures which were taken by Saturday Evening Post photographer, Jack Fields and are not in the yearbook, just for reference.
