All rights reserved.At the start of the 200-mile 1938 International Trophy Race at Brooklands, the cars were in a compact group, led by Raymond Mays\' ERA, Bira\'s Maserati, and Gerard\'s Delage. Back in the pack was J. Paul\'s new 12-cylinder Delage, which caught fire, left the track, and forced Lace\'s Darracq off the track. Despite heroic efforts by Paul, the car hit the railings, though at relatively slow speeds which allowed most spectators to escape unscathed. PLEASE NOTE: Any appearance of bowing is due to distortion from the camera—the print is perfectly straight and square.Crosby\'s monochrome image captures the horror of the scene, and the burned and nearly asphyxiated driver\'s standing efforts to control the car as it careened up the bank. As published in the 1978 edition of the book, The Art of Gordon Crosby, beautifully rendered on a smooth, satin-finished stock. Would look beautiful framed. Print is in gorgeous, mint condition. Clean and crisp, sharp edges and corners, unblemished surface. Page measures approximately 12.5\" x 9\" (32 x 23 cm).
