$15.00

Here\'s a 7/8\" litho buttonpromoting the 1928 democrat presidential candidate, New York Governor Alfred Emanuel Smith. And yes, his name likely got the Mad Magazine people thinking of what to name their mascot.
Smith almost received his party\'s nomination the last time around. But that 1924 DNC was a fiasco which went 103 ballots before the smoke cleared. Turns out that the KKK had such a major influence inside the democrat party, (they did actually since the Civil War), that they weren\'t about to let a Roman Catholic candidate be nominated. But, by 1928, the successful governor had proved so popular nationally, that even Franklin D. Roosevelt was behind him. (And even got his job).
But the 1928 DNC was in Houston, Texas, the first southern-held convention for that party since forever, and Smith was definitely not popular among the host delegation. And being Catholic, the first presidential nominee as such, (with JFK only being the second), he was voted against by many people in the fall for simply that reason. Kids, you have no idea how far this country has come!
This is in nice shape but please look at our images and judge condition for yourself so that you can be happy with your purchase. S & H on this will be $5.50 carefully packed with tracking. We are members of APIC and sell onlyauthentic presidential campaign material so buy with confidence. We will combine S&H even though says we don\'t. We just issue a refund for any overpayment.
