The George TritchHardware Company was once located at 1648-1652 Arapahoe Street, Denver, Colo.George Tritch (1829-1899) arrived in Denver in 1860 and established his firsthardware store on Larimer Street. He was a member of the Arapahoe County Boardof Education, School Board District Number 1 from 1887 to 1890. Tritch alsoserved as the Vice President of the German Bank of Denver and as President ofthe German National Bank of Denver.

The Wynkoop Street warehouses were occupied by some ofDenver’s most successful pioneer merchants, including George Tritch, whosehardware business, the George Tritch Hardware Company, occupied the Buildingfrom the early 1900s to the early 1930s. Tritch was one of Denver’s Germanimmigrant “movers and shakers,” and is often mentioned with other prominentDenver Germans such as Adolph Coors and William Barth. Tritch came to Denver in1860, and became a millionaire during the 19th century silver rush. Tritchexpanded east by building a bridge over the alley between Wynkoop and WazeeStreet to access a newly constructed warehouse fronting Wazee Street.
