Congress began providing pensions for veterans of the Revolutionary War in 1778. In May 1828, that pension act was updated to extend benefits to all men who served, removing the requirement of being disabled or demonstrating financial need.Cotton Evans is requesting a reinstatement of his pension. He tells the committee that he received it for one or two years and that it then stopped “for no good reason.” The committee has verified that he did indeed serve and is entitled to his pension, and they recommend it to be reinstated.
