After listing my forty year pipe collection, it’s time to part with the favorites - Ashtons by Bill Taylor, Ferndowns by Les Wood, and a few other high end collectible pieces. Any of these that don’t sell, I will keep.

🇬🇧 ASHTON 2001 BILL TAYLOR MADE PATENT NO. 8515730 PEBBLE SHELL CRAGGY DUBLIN XXX PIPE

From his time with Dunhill ON, the late William "Ashton" Taylor was obsessed with blasts and was determined to create the craggiest of blasts ever seen. While he already oil cured his Pebble Grain pipes that were his rival to the Dunhill Shell, during the mid 1980's he came up with the idea to also steam the briar to manipulate the soft areas, cut away some of the wood and then blast to create his "Pebble Shell" which he patented and received the number seen stamped on this pipe "8515730". And it created one of the craggiest finishes ever seen!

This particular pipe was carved 23 years ago in 2001 (dated both on the stamping and the original A Sterling Band. It and is a magnificent straight Dublin in an XXX format which is about a Group 5. It sports a wide and perfectly formed bowl with thick walls and a healthy sized chamber. Transition is perfect to the original hand-cut saddle stem with signature inlaid briar dot logo.

The finish color is the same as a Pebble Grain, beautiful burgundy with red accents while the blast shows off tons of undulations, ring grain and birdseye craters! Clean throughout, a fantastic piece from Taylor ready to enjoy!
