the vase
do note! the plates have scratches on them from interacting with flatware. see second image for an example. there is a bit of stray gold paint on the rim of the base of one of the dishes. otherwise, i can find no issues. they show beautiful fruits and nuts: one shows green grapes and walnuts. the other cherries and maybe peaches? their rims are finished in gold and the frame around the dish is ribbed. they are by royal tuscan, since absorbed by wedgewood (more on them below). the plates have a scalloped edge, so the diameter is not precise: 8\". the rim is a squat 1/2\" away from the surface on which the plate rests (great for hanging on a wall).the base marks are (see last image)

about tuscan and royal tuscan works(from tuscan works of longton was in the plant family until 1966 when rh & sl plant ltd was taken over by wedgwood. following their acquisition by wedgwood, tuscan fine bone china was marketed as royal tuscan. Production continued at the tuscan works until 2006, though the royal tuscan name was slowly phased out and the works concentrated on wedgwood hotelware.about etruria works/wedgewoodfrom: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/etruria_works the etruria works was a ceramics factory opened by josiah wedgwood in 1769 in a district of stoke-on-trent, staffordshire, england, which he named etruria. the factory ran for 180 years.

wedgwood had previously based his business in the nearby town of burslem at the ivy house works and the brick house works (demolished—the wedgwood institute is built on its site). in 1767 wedgwood paid about three thousand pounds for his new site, which was then known as the ridgehouse estate. it lay directly in the path of the trent and mersey canal of which wedgwood was a promoter. on one side of the canal wedgwood built a large house, etruria hall and on the other side a factory.

there is a description of etruria in the 1930s in jb priestley\'s english journey. by this time the site was affected by mining subsidence, and plans were drawn for a new factory at barlaston some miles south on the trent and mersey canal. the new factory was built in 1938–40 and most of the old factory was demolished in the twentieth century after the wedgwood company moved production to barlaston.
