c1910s-20s Art Postcard Isaiah John Singer Sargent Mural Boston Public LibraryPainted by John Singer Sargent, commissioned to paint a mural of 11 prophets for the Boston Public Library. He did so and sent them to be installed in 1895. For the purpose of this postcard, the prophet Isaiahwas selected from the multi-paneled mural. The artist was an American, maybe living in Europe when this was painted.
The typeof printing procedure for the postcard is unclear, but likely involved the use of a photograph. Printedby the Suffolk Engraving and Electrotyping Co., Boston and New York.
Corner and edge wear as seen in photos. Corners and edges bumped, worn, missing material. No other creases or tears. Corners rounded. Spotting and tanning throughout. Evidence of album corner mounts. Further straight-line marks visible on address side possibly due to underlining album or other components.
