Edward Burke Wilford

[ FEATURES AND CONDITION DETAILS... ]

PROVENANCE: These original period print blocks were purchased at an sale in Pennsylvania where they were selling a number of items that came from the collection of inventor Col. Edward Burke Wilford III--of gyroplane fame. They appear to be photos (possibly that ran in publications at that time) of some of his company's models.

I have listed more items from Mr. Wilford's collection. To see what is still available, search for: "EDWARD BURKE WILFORD"

COL. EDWARD BURKE WILFORD III was born in Philadelphia and raised in Merion Station, Pennsylvania. He graduated from The Haverford School in 1943. After an additional two years of study while serving in the Army reserve, he attended West Point, graduated in 1949, and then joined the Air Force flight school to become a jet pilot and the head of his squadron in the Korean War. After the war, he returned to civilian work, though still very active as an aeronautical engineer. He repeatedly appeared before the U.S. Government at various subcommittee meetings and other forums through the 1950s while advocating for the engineering concepts he pioneered. He moved his family to the Washington, D.C. area in 1962 to work for companies serving the defense sector and later at several government agencies, but later returned to live in Pennslvania. Col. Wilford filed numerous patents, most of which were related to his main focus: gyroplanes (a.k.a. autogyros). His company built, successfully flew, and also sold many of these craft which he actually began making in the 1930s (before the war).

They are either zinc or magnesium, mounted on mahogany blocks. The smallest is approx. 3¼" x 2¾", and the largest is 7½" x 5¾".

[ CONDITION... ]

- As-is vintage condition, from a non-smoking environment

- All of the blocks have age issues: corrosion spots as pictured--typical with these zinc/magnesium images. These blocks are being sold as-is.

The above is my good-faith attempt to disclose all noteworthy issues. Keep in mind that vintage/antique items always show their age. (Don't we all!?) It would be impossible to mention every tiny detail, so please expect that there will be something about this item (or lot) that's not perfect and may need touch-up.

PLEASE SUPERSIZE ALL PHOTOS, AND ASK ALL QUESTIONS BEFORE offerDING/BUYING. I'LL BE GLAD TO ANSWER.
