This old drill measures almost 11 inches long and is marked ZIMMER MFG CO WARSAW INDIANA on the crank. These guys still make orthopedic drill but appears to be the powered type. I was able to find a few brace type examples but nothing on this type. My guess is they were not popular, smooth chrome surfaces in the surgeons work would seem to be a handful. They did provide some pretty healthy protrusions to help with grip but it seems to me the grace style would give much better control easier than spinning the crank. No matter, is your eggbeater drill collection really complete without a surgeons drill?
