We are offering a total of 10 items regarding the Yumuri Rail & Tramway Company, Cuba. Early 1900s.
1. & 2.) Maps of the property of the Yumuri Rail & Tramway Company, Province of Oriente, Cuba; and of the property of the Oriente Fruit Co. Railroad, also in the Province of Oriente, Cuba
3.)1913 Report/Prospectus of Yumuri Rail & Tramway Co.Consists of information on Capital Stock, Total Earnings Estimates, and the company\'s Properties and Acreage. Also gives future Estimated Plantation Earnings from Bananas and Coffee - \"following the policies that developed the United Fruit Co. from a small business to one of the largest and most profitable of the great American corporations\". \"The company [Yumuri Rail & Tramway Co.] has an absolute monopoly over the entire eastern end of the Island of Cuba\". The report hasa section on the Food Value of the banana, and how it could also be used as a \"prepared food\" - stating that several powerful American companies had created subsidiary companies \"equipped with scientific laboratories in New York City and elsewhere for the study of how to increase the value of the banana in new forms of foodstuffs, and that the peel was being used to make an oil used by painters, and the dried stalk to make rope and fuel.\"
4.)May 1, 1913, printed letter, more like a booklet (4-pgs.) from J. W. Beall, President of Yumuri Rail & Tramway Co. to Messrs. H. K. Burras & Co., New York City. Beall states that the railway controls all of Cuba\'s incoming and outgoing freight due to the mountainous terrain between the eastern end and the rest of the island, and due to the railway\'s access to the harbor connecting Cuba with the U. S. markets. He states there are 400,000 acres available for planting, with rich soil and abundant rainfall, and that shipping would be considerably cheaper from Cuba than for existing exports from the West Indies or Central America. He also says that native labor would only cost from $.75 to $1.00 per day. He says the land could be brought back to its growing capacity as it was prior to the devastation by the Spaniards and Revolutionists in 1895.
5., 6., 7., 8. & 9.)Along with the above letter, are 4 papers of information similar to the prospectus described above, but more detailed,and a Proposed Syndicate to get more investors.
10.)1909 Indenture between Yumuri Rail & Tramway Company and the United States Mortgage & Trust Co. -to act as trustee regarding bonds in the amount of $1,000,000.
