Exquisite, ULTRA-RARE and significant MONUMENTAL reclining female nude figure in patinated plaster by LUCIEN GIBERT (1904-1988). SIGNED to base.

A true showstopper and focal point in any room, with a size and presence that commands attention.

As with many of the artist’s large-scale works, the Art Deco style is infused with a Beaux Arts classicism with a trace of the romanticism of Art Nouveau. (Not surprising, given the artist’s history and training, and the period in which he worked.

LUCIEN GIBERT (1904-1988), a leading sculptor of the Art Deco epoch, trained at the National School of Fine Arts — and his early mentors were ARISTIDE MAILLOL and CHARLES DESPIAU (the former was championed by and the latter also worked with AUGUSTE RODIN. )

The medium is cast plaster — patinated in a rich, deep green.

MEASUREMENTS (including base) are approximately:

Height: 20”

Length: 33.5”

Depth: 9”

As expected, it is HEAVY. With base, over 40 pounds.

There are signs of some wear, typical of patinated plaster statues of such size, but in our opinion, these do little to detract from its magnificence. Please examine the many photos in this listing to judge for yourself, as these are a vital part of this description.
