Made to the exact 1961 standard from the origins of the Eisenhower interstate highway system. the wider shields came with the revision of 1961 - previously, three-digit route markers were the same size as two-digit, but with narrower numerals.This design was supplanted by the modern shield style - often with the state name omitted! - in 1971, and it gets harder and harder to find the original-style interstate route markers in many states.This sign is flat printed on heavy gauge steel, with completely accurate layout and fonts.
