William Starling Burgess [1878 1947] was anAmerican aviation pioneer, noted yacht designer and naval architect. Burgess was one of the great restless geniuses of American design and he made his mark across an extraordinary range of fields from aviation, naval architecture and automotive design. Burgess was awarded the Collier Trophy in 1915, just two years after Orville Wright won it and he helped design the radical Dymaxion car and between 1930 to 1937 he designed and built three America's Cup winning yachts, the Enterprise, Rainbow and the Ranger. In aviation he designed and built aircraft and founded the Herring-Burgess Aircraft Corporation which built a biplane named the Flying Fish which flew over Plum Island in 1910, and also built a hydroplane which was purchased by the United States Army and Navy in 1914. Listed for sale is the autograph of William Starling Burgess signed on a card. The autograph is signed W. Starling Burgess'' in black fountain pen and the card measures 5.00 x 3.00 inches. The card has trivial toning otherwise it is in fine condition. The autograph is authentic and is a nice example of this aviation and boat pioneer.
