This is a very unusual pottery form.... This piece appears to be the top of aheavilydecorate pot, but with out the lower portion and is meant to be hung on the wall. It is covered with butterflies and floral motifs and paintedwith very subtle pigments with a metallic cast to them. This pot is all handmade, hand painted and Burnished in thepottery tradition called Barrobruñidoby Daniel Aguilar Benitez. Daniel is a master potterwho belongs to anaugustgroupof potters who call them selvesGrupo Herencia Milenaria. They have alovelymuseum on the outskirts of Tonala and are devoted to theconservation and promotion their ancestral tradition Tonaltecan Ceramic craft. It is signed on the front on the bottom right hand corner by Daniel. It measures approximately: 12 3/4 inches indiameter& 3 inches deep. There is a clay loop on the backso it can be hung on the wall... This plate is a wonderful example ofMexican Folk art and Ceramic traditionsfrom this area of Mexico. This is a newly made piece and is in perfect condition. This would make a great addition to your Mexican Folk Art collection or a wonderful gift for a Lover of beautiful objects!!!
