The U.S.S. Northampton (1930-1942) CA-26 of WWII was a heavy cruiser, the lead of her class. She served in the Pacific theater, was at sea with Admiral Halsey during the Pearl Harbor attack, was involved with various battles, was with the USS Hornet for the Doolittle raid, was part of the Battle of Midway, at Guadalcanal, and towed the stricken USS Hornet during the battle of Santa Cruz Islands. Finally during theBattle of Tassafaronga in 1942 she was torpedoed by Japanese submarines and sank.
This lot came from the collection of a WWII sailor who had cruiser and destroyer and tin can related materials (other materials will be listed separately). This sailor served on the U.S.S. Northampton, and this training record was signed by the captain of the Northampton in 1941.

Photograph of AM324 Vigilance! This was an auk-class minesweeper. 3-3/8\" x 5\" glossy black and white photo. Backside says July 28, 1945 Dec 11, 1945. Thompson DMS.38 Dec 11, 1945 July 12, 1946. Possibly these were two other ships he served on. This minesweeper saw active combat action against submarines and attacking Japanese aircraft, downing a number of them over different battles.
Navy Training Course Certificate for Seaman First Class. Dated June 1941, so just before Pearl Harbor. Signed by Captain W.D. Chandler, Captain of the USN U.S.S. Northampton at that time!
