This was my father\'s kit, which he carried during missions in the Pacific Theatre. He was a Naval tail gunner and navigator primarily on Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bombers.It is my understanding he received this kit from an Army Air Corps crew member via a trade for a C-ration of meat and potato hash.
This Army Air Corps Emergency Sustenance Survival Kit is a rare and authentic piece of militaria from World War II. It is a must-have for any WWII militaria collection.

With respect to the container, the majority of the original markings on it remain legible. The lid mates with the container tightly, and the wire bail snaps into place as it should. The top cap is easily removed and replaced; and the gaskets are present in excellent condition.

FLASK for use as water container, and obviously it was used to store the consumable contents until needed.

As for the contents, this kit was made in the 1940\'s, therefore the contents are NOT suitable for consumption. Please review the notes that follow.

ADHESIVE TAPE (I believe this is included, however there are no markings on this appear to be the only item missing from the original contents.

As this kit was made in the 1940\'s, the contents are NOT suitable for consumption. They are being sold only as novelty collector pieces.

PROVENANCE...As many young men did with the outbreak of WWII, my father enlisted and entered the Navy. In 1943, not long after completing Naval Air Tactical Training, he was assigned to the Pacific Theater, primarily as a tail gunner and navigator on a Douglas SBD Dauntless, for dive bombing and naval scout missions. At the close of the war, he was aboard the USS Cumberland Sound when it entered Tokyo Bay on August 28, 1945, several days prior to the formal surrender signing by Emperor Hirohito.
In 1946, my father re-enlisted entering the Army, specifically the Army Air Force (USAAF). Then in 1947, USAAF became known as the Air Force (USAF), where he spent the remainder of his military service.
Post WWII, his career focused on secured cryptographic communications, along with long range large format photography. He had numerous assignments and duty stations, including the harsh cold weather environments of Alaska and Greenland, in addition to extremes of heat and humidity in Central America and the Caribbean.
Prior to his retirement in 1967, my father was the senior NCO at Offutt AFB, SAC Headquarters, responsible for communications working in the lowest level underground. More specifically, his primary role was employing cryptography to ensure secured communications, along with daily operation of \"Looking Glass\" -- the airborne backup Strategic Air Command communications headquarters.
