Here is a relic of WWI, a sample of French soil from the Verdun battlefield. It is enclosed in a terracotta model of a French mile marker sculpted by G. Deblaize. The seal at its base has been broken and a tissue was put in its place but I can still feel and hear soil rattling around inside. One side of the terracotta piece is dated 1914 and the other is dated 1918. The terracotta piece comes in a black box labeled in gold lettering “La borne de Terre Sacree”. Along with the box is a two page handwritten note dated 2005 in which someone is explaining to a former owner what this item is and its significance.The black outer box measures about 5 1/2” x 2 1/2” x 1 1/2” and the terracotta piece measures about 5 1/4’ x 2 1/4’ x 1 1/4”.See photos for overall condition and ask me any questions you may have.
