The Serbiancampaign started on 28 July 1914, when Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbiaand bombarded Belgrade the following day. On August 12 the Austro-Hungarian armiescrossed the border, the Drina River .

Theuniforms of the Serbian army in the Great War, although they were supposed tobe in accordance with the Uniform Regulations of 1908, the Serbian soldier didnot have a uniform uniform during the First World War. On the one hand, it wasimpossible due to the lack of military equipment and clothing, which was adaily occurrence in the Serbian army, and on the other hand, due to the largenumber of volunteers who joined the Serbian army and fought in Austro-Hungarianuniforms. So that one part of the Serbian military equipment entered the war innational costume with a sajkača on the head and opanas on the feet.

Serbia, keeping pace with the military superpowers, was one of the first to"redesign" the military uniform, which in terms of appearance, theSerbian olive drab M1908 uniform was much better than the Austro-Hungarian blueuniforms that did not have any camouflage properties.

Theregulation on the uniform of the Serbian army, adopted in 1908, defined theM1908 uniform model, which was characteristic of the image of the Serbiansoldier throughout all the wars fought in the second decade of the 20thcentury.

Thesechanges were made for several reasons:

· -tomake the uniform more practical in order to fully meet the demands of modernwarfare.

· -tohave a simpler cut of the military uniform, because due to the increasingnumber of wars for which huge quantities of uniforms had to be provided, a lotof money was needed, and its simplification directly affected the statefinances.

· -tochange the color, which was the biggest innovation, in order to provide thesoldier with a gray-olive color that would blend in better with the environmentand move around the battlefield more easily.

· -thesame cut of the uniform for everyone, and the difference between soldiers,non-commissioned officers and officers could be seen in the rank hung on theuniform, and not by the cut and color of the uniform itself, as before.
