ST. PAUL CIVIC CENTER ARENA

St. Paul\'s Civic Center, located in Saint Paul, Minnesota, was a multi-purpose arena that played a significant role in the region\'s sports and entertainment landscape. Opened in 1973, the Civic Center was known for its distinctive clear dasher boards, which offered fans unobstructed views of the action on the ice. With a seating capacity of approximately 17,000 for hockey and other sports events, it was designed to accommodate a variety of events, including concerts, conventions, and other large gatherings.

The arena was primarily known as the home of the Minnesota Fighting Saints of the World Hockey Association (WHA). The Fighting Saints, who played from 1972 to 1976 and again from 1976 to 1977 after a brief hiatus, brought professional hockey to the Civic Center. Despite the team\'s relatively short existence, they garnered a passionate following and contributed to the growing popularity of hockey in Minnesota. The Civic Center also hosted the Minnesota Moose of the International Hockey League (IHL) from 1994 to 1996, further solidifying its reputation as a key venue for hockey in the state.

In addition to hockey, the Civic Center served as the home court for the Minnesota Ripknees of the American Basketball Association (ABA) and various other minor league and collegiate sports teams over the years. It was a versatile venue that could be adapted for basketball, wrestling, and even indoor soccer, demonstrating its flexibility and importance to the local sports scene.

The Civic Center was eventually closed and demolished in 1998, making way for the construction of the Xcel Energy Center, a modern facility that continues to host the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League (NHL) and other major events.
