Today I am offering this fabulous vintage and very hard-to-find Taylor & Ng 1976 barrel shaped coffee mug or cup.
It features a transferware design in brown on tan pottery on all sides of the cup.
The image is a family of elephants, 2 adults with a baby in the center. They are in a field of some kind of fruits or vegetables.
The elephants and background are also decorated in a monochromatic cool batik style.
This mug is on the small side, measuring 4¼" high, and 2¾" across the top opening.
It's in great vintage pre-owned condition, especially considering it is nearly half a century old!
It is signed on the side with the Taylor & Ng signature, and dated 1976. Though not very visible, it is incised on the underside with Taylor & Ng Japan.
It has no chips, cracks or crazing. There is what appears to be a manufacturing flaw on the bottom outer edge. It looks like a small slice in the clay that was probably present prior to firing. Doesn't detract from the piece whatsoever. Additionally the transfer pattern has a few imperfections, though that might have been intentional.
