Vtg Myrtlewood Condiment Set MCM 5 Pc Glass Myrtle Wood Serving Carousel Oregon:
$63.63

Today I am offering this original Myrtlewood serving set from the Bayview Myrtlewood Shop of North Bend Oregon circa 1950s-1960s.

This was handmade by an artisan and includes the original label on each piece of wood.

This mid-century modern set has 4 glass bowls topped with rich myrtlewood lids. The sit in a round carousel style tray, also made of myrtlewood. There is a center post with a top handle that is made of metal finished in glossy \"gold\" color. This can be used to lift the tray and spin it around so you can reach the condiment of your choice.

The tray base measures 7\" across and it is about 5½\" high from the bottom to the top of the handle.

Each glass dish is approximately 2¾\" wide.

The condition is vintage pre-owned but still excellent IMO. The handle top has a few scratches, but all the wood and glass is free from damage. The green and gold metallic labels under the lids are strongly adhered to each one, the label under the tray is loose.

Here\'s some history of the Oregon Myrtlewood industry:

The myrtlewood industry originated in the late 1800\'s along the Southern Oregon Coast. As one takes a closer look at myrtlewood craftsmanship, the oldest factory emerges as a story of history and success. The Myrtlewood Factory, located five miles north of North Bend, Oregon, at the entrance to the Dunes National Recreation Area, is the oldest in the world. In 1869, the golden spike symbolically marking completion of the nation\'s first transcontinental railroad was driven into a tie of highly polished myrtlewood. Later, the wood brought some rare beauty for the Great Depression years. It soon became a tourist attraction, and many small shops opened up, presenting the product to travelers along the Oregon Coast.
