Was it made to celebrate getting the contacts to make the tram rail? Or maybe years later when the tram rails were removed from the streets? It has what seems to be section numbers on it.

The mill was only called the Lorain Steel Company for a few short years around 1900.

Here\'s a little history of this Steel mill;

Throughout the years, the mill experienced many changes. It grew and expanded, but it also changed names and management multiple times. Beginning with the Johnson Steel Company in 1894, by 1898, Johnson and cofounder, Moxham, refinanced their company into the Lorain Steel Company after Johnson\'s interests switch to politics. Under the Lorain Steel Company, the mill produced it\'s first blast furnace in 1899. Also, by 1903, the Lorain Steel Company\'s number of workers was up to 2,300 employees.

From the Lorain Steel Company, the mill was reorganized to U.S. Steel in 1901 until 1904. Although U.S. Steel was only running for three years, its origins were in the dealing of some of America\'s most legendary businessmen such as Andrew Carnegie, J.P. Morgan, and Charles Schwab. With an authorized capitalization of $1.4 billion, the United States Steel Corporation was the largest business enterprise ever launched.

From 1904 until 1986, the mill was called the National Tube Company, a division of U.S. Steel.
