Vintage Hammacher Schlemmer & Co Bow Drill. Measuring 10 1/4\" long, the chuck is 3/8\" in diameter, and this weighs 1 lb 10 1/2 oz unboxed. Back in the 19th and early part of the 20th Century, Hammacher Schlemmer & Co were major resellers of woodworking and other tools. This is in good condition and was cleaned. There ain\'t nothing much overall patina wise to fuss about. The chuck is good. This would have used bits that were mounted into metal pads that would have been secured with a metal pin. I did NOT get any bits with this guy. The brass center section is good and the handle ferrule is also good other than a scratch marked user name. The side screw works and the head section spins freely. I did put a little oil down in there. I can\'t say what kind of wood the handle is, but it does not look to be rosewood. That is good and has almost all of the original finish, plus a coat of wax. This is one of those tools that is few and very far between. A great collectible old tool for sure!All items for sale unless otherwise noted are purchased and in most cases professionally restored by me. I take pride in offering quality items.
