8 x 6\" Heavy Paper Folio containing 10 Watercolor print cards of the Historic town of Uglich in Russia. Each of the Watercolors is done by the artist, P.D. Buchkin. Piotr Dmitrievich Buchkin(Russian:Пё́тр Дми́триевич Бучки́н; 22 January 1886 – 21 June 1965) was a Soviet and Russian painter, watercolorist, graphic artist, illustrator, and art teacher, Honored Arts Worker of the RSFSR. Buchkin lived and worked inLeningradand was a member and one of the founders of theLeningrad branch of Union of Artists of Russian Federationand representatives of theLeningrad school of painting,[1]most famous for his portrait painting.This folio collection contains many of the historic churches which were still standing in the 1960\'sas well as various other views of the town and its. Kremlin.
The city was first documented in 1148 asUgliche Pole(Corner Field). The town\'s name is thought to allude to the nearby turn in the Volga River, and is derived from the Russian wordugol(a corner, a nook).Apart from the kremlin, the city center features other examples of historic Russian architecture. Particularly notable are the Alexeievsky and Resurrection monasteries. The Assumption three-tented church(1628) of the Alexeyevsky Monastery is considered a gem of Russian medieval architecture. The common people said this church was \"Marvelous\", and that qualifier became part of its official name. Located nearby is the more conventional Church ofSt. John the Baptist(1681).Closer to the bank of the Volga is the Resurrection Monastery with a huge cathedral,refectory,belfry, and summer church. All these buildings stand in a row and date to 1674–77. Opposite the monastery is the graceful Church of theNativity of St. John the Baptist. It was built in 1689-90 by a local merchant to commemorate the spot where his son had drowned.

This folio is dated 1968 and was purchased as a souvenir of the area circa 1970. All verbiage in the folio is in Russian, but each card bears the description of the picture in Russian, English, French and German.

Individual cards are in excellent condition, suitable for viewing or framing. Overleaf is a tiny bit worn on the folds.
