A long carved wood paper knife/letter opener with a carved and hand painted figure of an old seaman (?) having a knit cap and gray vest. 13 5/8\" long x 2 3/8\" wide x 3/8\" thick. On the blade is a beautiful calligraphy inscription: S.S. St. Lawrence. It comes with a custom display stand (14 3/4\" x 3 1/4\" x 2 1/4\" overall). There is history for the S.S. St.Lawrence - a Frigate in the U.S. Navy in mid 19th C.A nice folk art item.
