Vintage Double-Decker TIM ticket machine
Manufactured by Ticket Issue Machine, LTD, Cirencester, UK circa 1940 – 1970 or 1980.
This is the only ticket machine of this type for sale here in the United States! Plus, I will pay for the shipping. This ticket issue machine shows some obvious age but seems to be working well. The ink has apparently dried up, as even though a ticket can be produced, it comes out blank.
I’m not sure where the serial number is located, or even if these machines have one, but the number above where the ticket is issued is 61. That may mean it’s an early model or something else entirely.
The rotary dial and the leaver behind appear to be working OK, but as mentioned above, the ticket comes out blank.
The window in front shows the price in the following order:
P (pence), Total, 10P (10 pence)Here is some background on these ticket-issue machines:
Bus conductors, who were also referred to as conductors, or “clippies”, were a common feature of many local bus services in larger towns and cities in the UK and Ireland, until the late 1970s and early 1980s. Back then, many urban services used double-decker vehicles, built with front-mounted engines and a “half-cab” design. Some were boarded from an open platform at the rear, while others had a forward entrance, a staircase, and driver-operated doors. As this layout totally separated the driver from the passenger saloons, a two-person crew was needed to operate the bus – conductor and driver. The conductor was required to collect fares and supervise passenger loading and unloading, especially on the rear-entrance design, issuing a ticket to each passenger via the TIM ticket machine
*Please note: This unit is sold as-is since it is a vintage machine. Please look at all the photos to understand what is being offered. Any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. **Serious inquiries only, please.**
