Vintage Dhokra brass lantern candle holder.
Dhokra metal casting uses the lost wax process, also called ‘cire perdue’ method of metal casting. Molten metal is poured into a mold created with a wax model. Lost wax metal casting was once widespread throughout India, but is now restricted to a small group of traditional artisans. Dhokra is currently made by the metal-smith tribes of Bengal.
