Two decks of fabulous 50\'s-60\'s era vintage advertising playing cards from Chicago -- both about the meat industry.
One is a promotional deck from the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workers of North America, showing the streamlined 1951 International Headquarters building, located at 2800 North Sheridan Road in Chicago. An internet search reveals that the building is still there -- but it\'s now a medical office building. So I suppose in a very roundabout way it still has to do with meat cutting.The other deck advertises Nick Beucher & Sons Co., which dealt in \"BONES SUET FAT TALLOW CRACKLINGS CALFSKINS HIDES\" The plant building is depicted along with some railroad cars (presumably loaded or about to be loaded with bones, suet, fat, tallow, cracklings, calfskins, and/or hides). This location now has to do with automotive parts and service, if the internet is to be believed.Tha Amalgamated Meat Cutters deck has been very lightly used if at all, and is complete plus two Jokers. It\'s in a thin gold cardboard box with a clear plastic upper cover.
The Nick Beucher deck is brand new, STILL SEALED as shown. There\'s a zipcode, so it\'s no earlier than 1963.Terrific weird mid-century collectibles hearkening back to a gritty earlier era of Chicago history.
