Very Rare UK Anglo Saxon \'Germanic\' Zoomorphic Stone Beast Amulet:

Here we have a small quartzite al shaped hard stone which has been carefully carved into a zoomorphic form to both the front and rear faces: One face appears to be of owl form with a sweeping orbital brow-line and circular elevated eyes: The other face appears to describe a beast form with the upper retention nodule forming the snout, with two oval eye details one of which, still contains a small purple garnet inset: The upper retention pin is a carved \'watch-like winder\' allowing a cord to be tied up on it for hanging:
Condition:
Very fine and complete (one eye missing), the amulet has a polished surface to both front and rear faces.
Provenance. Northern Cambridgeshire Fen Edge Ridgeway.
The amulet was recovered close to a known Anglo-Saxon village site known to have been in use as early as the Iron Age and continued in use well into the Medieval era.
