On August 4th, 1929, the Queen City\'s trolleys went up in literal flames. More than 5,000 attendees witnessed the spectacle of an unforgettable farewell party, held at the corner of Main and St. Paul streets in downtown Burlington, Vermont. Burlington’s public transportation story began much moresedately with a horse-drawn street railway in 1885. The routes expandedwhen a state-of-the-art electrified system replaced equines eight years later.A second company connected neighboring Winooski, Fort Ethan Allen, and EssexJunction soon after.
