Here’s a wonderful piece that I found in boxes from my in-laws. My father-in-law (passed) traveled for Burroughs Corp, all over the world, mostly from 1960-80s. I can’t provide validation, I’ll have to depend on you collectors, but this rattle could be older than the 60s to 80s, the quiver was probably from the 1940s as I recall. He returned with many wonderful treasures from all the countries visited. I found this rattle, along with another one, and quiver with poison darts in a box, I’ve already sold the quiver. The quiver actually had an identifying catalog number and tag attached. It was from the MACU Indians in South America, in the Amazon. I suspect, but cannot prove that this rattle, along with the other, are from the same area. I’ve searched the Internet and can not find a gourd with woven thatch over it, such as this has. Maybe those of you who are collectors will know exactly where this came from, I welcome your comments. FYI, It’s amazing, it’s really amazing, and the photos do not do it justice.

This is some kind of a gourd which you can see between the woven thatch covering. It probably has seeds in it and when you rattle it it’s a quite distinct crackling rattling sound. It’s not gentle and soft like a Rainstick sound - It’s loud. The piece is 20 inches long. It is woven with what I think is thatch that has been dyed in green, brown, black as you can see in the photos. At the bottom of the gourd and the top of the gourd, colorful bird feathers have been woven in place. If you look at the photos, you will see there is one long stick 20 inches long, and you can see the carving on the stick on the bottom of it.

The condition is as shown in my photos I do believe this is from the 1960s to 80s and it looks like it’s been stored but maybe not perfectly protected. There’s a few areas where the thatch has loosened which you will see in the pictures.
