Ciriaco Piras was born in Dorgali, in the province of Nuoro, in 1891. (d.1955)

Introduced to sheep farming by his family, young Piras had natural carving skills which he applied to cork and wood.

Discovered by Francesco Ciusa, owner of the Cagliari ceramic factory "Spira", in 1919 Ciriaco Piras moved to Cagliari and worked for 2 years as an apprentice under Ciusa.

In 1922 Piras returned to Dorgali and opened a small artistic ceramic workshop where he created works inspired by Sardinian culture and tradition.

Towards the end of the 1920s, Salvatore Fancello, Simone Lai, Antonio Lovicu and Giovanni Cucca were among the collaborators in the factory.

Some ceramics made by Ciriaco Piras were presented at the V Craft and Small Business Exhibition organized by E.N.A.P.I. in June 1936 in Cagliari.
